If you read or watch the news these days, it can feel a little like the world is one great rubbish tip. While there’s plenty of work still to do, it’s not all bad news – the ozone layer is healing itself, the US has more trees than it had a decade ago and plastic bag use is down 90% in the UK since the 5p charge came in – crushing it team GB!
In fact, there’s never been a time when the great British public were so united on an environmental issue, as they are on single-use plastics. It’s an eco-phenomenon and we’re super excited about it! It all began with David Attenborough’s Blue Planet, where we saw the impact of plastic in the ocean. Millions of people were moved by the plight of the marine cuties affected by plastic pollution, and made the decision there and then, to live in a more environmentally friendly way. Then the world’s largest green-field music festival (Glasto of course), went plastic-free and HRH the Queen banned single-use plastics from her estates - go Liz!
Here at Yes I Want It, we think small changes really can make the difference. We’re taking our reusable totes with us every time we hit the shops, carrying our reusable water bottles everywhere we go, and swearing off those sucky plastic straws in favour of our gorge metal ones – we’re saving the planet in style - yeah!
We’ve also written a blog with 5 hacks for reducing your plastic footprint - check it out. It’s full of useful tips and interesting info to help you live more sustainably.
It’s a beautiful world out there and we want to keep it that way…
