The days are longer, the days are warmer and sunnier (mostly) – it must mean it’s summer! As well as digging out all our cutest warm-weather outfits, we’ll be styling our homes for the change of the seasons too. We’re talking uplifting planters, vibrant colours and a bright and breezy attitude. So even if the weather is a bit unreliable, you can bring the sunshine inside.
As (let’s face it) most of us won’t be getting a summer holiday abroad again this year, there’s all the more reason to give your pad a seasonal glow-up. Just a few playful pieces or a dash of eye-catching colour, are enough to give a room a big summertime lift. Let’s make this the best summer ever!
1)Make an indoor jungle
We can’t all be blessed with a garden, but we can still bring the outdoors in, with a lush selection of gorgeous houseplants. Indoor plants are bang on trend (just ask Instagram), as well as good for your air and mental health. Exotic looking plants with big leaves or flowers are all super-summery or if you’re not naturally green-fingered, you might want to go for succulents or cacti, which are basically impossible to kill (trust us, we’ve tried). Of course, every plant baby needs a gorgeous planter. This Mojave Glaze Leggy Planter features a dip ombre finish in all the colours of a Mediterranean sunset, or if you’re short on space, this Sunset Planter has a retro vibe that’s as pretty as a picture. These Barry the Cactus Aztec Planters come complete with cacti, for the aforementioned low maintenance indoor gardening option – sweet.
2)Add seasonal colour
While we love dark, hygge tones in the winter months, once summer rolls around, we’re in the mood for tropical brights and sorbet shades. There’s no easier way to makeover a room than with some carefully chosen cushions and throws. This Pink Stripe Cushion will add a little texture as well as colour, and this Yellow Twill Throw is a thing of true beauty. Add this Boho Geo Rug with its cute yellow tassels, for the finishing colour pop touch.
3)Get retro with rattan
There’s just something soooo summery about rattan. It’s got that 70s vibe that says long balmy nights to us. Bring that boho feel into your boudoir or elsewhere, with this Rattan Starburst Mirror or this all-seeing Rattan Eye Mirror. Mirrors bring lots of light into a room as well, which all adds to the summer feeling.
4)Get a festival vibe going on
Apart from holidays in Ibiza, nothing says summer like a festival. We’ve had serious Glasto withdrawals the last couple of years, so we’re planning to recreate at home. These beautiful Neon Dip Dye Candles have an undeniable hippy chic feel that we just can’t get enough of, or if you prefer a true blue, how about their Blueberry coloured brothers? We’ll also be lighting up our home fest with this LED Wire Light Strand and this gorge Hanging Moon Light (we can almost smell Glastonbury!)
5) Decorate with flowers
Nothing says summer like freshly cut flowers. And every beautiful bloom deserves an equally lovely vase. This Terracotta Vase is inspired by the Southwestern deserts of America and brings a mellow mood to any room, and this colourful Senõr Vase is so much fun, we can’t even.
6)Fill your home with sunshine
There are times when the British summer is pretty far from sun-drenched. When you haven’t seen the sun in weeks, say it with words! This Sunshine Rope Word will cheer up the greyest day. This Make Time for Sunshine Tumbler is exactly what we’d like to be sipping Pimms from when the sun does finally make a reappearance, and this Gold Sunset Shelf is all kinds of seasonal lush.
7)Bring the beach home
Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside, but when we can’t, we’ll settle for recreating that beachy feel at home. This Polka Dot Pots Deckchair transports us instantly to a place where we’ve got sand between our toes, and we can hear the waves (sigh). And relaxxxx.
8)Pimp your patio
If you’re lucky enough to have your own outdoor space, now’s the time to give it a spruce. The whole indoor/outdoor trend shows no signs of stopping and we are fully on board. Layer up your seating area with squishy cushions like this Triangle Block Print number, drape cosy throws for when the sun goes down, like this scrummy Green Blanket, and fill your space with plants in characterful pots, like this adorbs Terracotta Cabeza Planter.
