Back to the Future – movie classics

The Back to the Future movies are easily the greatest time-travel stories ever told. The trilogy follows teenager Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) and the eccentric Dr Emmet Brown (Christopher Lloyd) as they travel through time in the time machine Doc has built out of a DeLorean.

The original and the best

The first (and IOHO best) movie sees Marty stuck in the 1950s, with no plutonium to power the time machine to return him to the present. Marty’s (then teenage) mum falls for him instead of his dad, putting Marty’s very existence in jeopardy (who can forget the vanishing photo?). Marty must enlist the help of the younger Doc to get his parents together and get back to the future before it’s too late – great Scott! BTTF continues to find fans decades after its release. It’s consistently included in lists of ‘films to see before you die’ and is still heavily referenced in popular culture, and we can totes see why.
