The Love Island effect
Summer just wouldn’t be summer without Love Island. The pecs! The grafting! The drama! Love it or loathe it, it’s an annual national phenomenon, and we can’t stop chatting about it. It was Twitter’s most talked about TV show in 2018 and is shaping up to be in the top two this year as well. Who can forget Curtis’ head being turned, Maura sacking Tom off before their hideaway date and Bella shaving Anton’s bum? (Although we’d quite like it if we could forget that last one!)
It’s influenced the way we look (Neon! Snakeprint! Underboob!), the way we speak (it is what it is, pied off, crack on) and most importantly, the way we drink. (And we don’t mean Lucie’s baffling drinking style – you don’t need to tip it up woman, it’s got a straw!)
Along with the Blue Planet effect, Love Island has had a massive impact on the use of reusable water bottles. As the contestants slurped endlessly on the straws of their personalised water bottles, we followed suit and bought them in our thousands. Adorned with the owner’s name, in a cheeky pink font, they became summer’s must have item. While the relationships that blossomed in the villa may not stand the test of time, we hope that the movement towards reusable water bottles does - single use plastic is proper muggy!
You know that moment, when you and your friend put your drinks down on the same table and then can’t figure out whose is whose? You go through forensic level testing, to see which lippy on the bottle matches yours, but you still aren’t totally certain. You compare the levels - did you really drink that much, because you feel like you had more than that left? You inspect the contents - is that backwash yours or somebody else’s? (Ewwwwww!) Well that problem is sooooo 2018 when you’ve got your very own personalised water bottle. It also means that if you happen to accidentally leave it at a mate’s house, they’ll know it’s yours – what’s not to love? Personalised water bottles also make great gifts – they’re the perfect keepsake for hen parties, girly weekends or bridesmaid favours!
